Individual Pledges "Residents of Palo Alto can visit www.paloaltoremembers.com and choose a volunteer activity from the list, or simply donate to the cause. At the end of the week on the evening of 9/11, I hold a Tribute Event in a local park, where I award a prize to the neighborhood that exhibited the most volunteering. This year, the prize is an ice cream social, donated by Cold Stone Creamery and Hobee's Restaurants. Anyone wishing to start a "remember week" in their area can contact Jan Altman at info@paloaltoremembers.com Jan Altman." - Jan Altman - Palo Alto Remembers "AAA Volunteers will be participating in a wide variety of community-based activities including the AIDS Walk in Sacramento, the American Heart Walk in Salt Lake City, the United Negro College Fund Walk in Oakland and the San Francisco Zoo "Renew the Zoo" project in San Francisco. And, AAA is hosting other smaller volunteer events in other cities and towns." - Roger Hancock - Calif. State Automobile Assoc. Northern "Org. will allow volunteers to come in and prepare and package gifts that will be given away during the holiday season to needy families who can't afford gifts for their children." - Corla Coles - Santa Claus Incorporated "Airline Ambassadors will collect school supplies for Iraqi children as part of Operation Iraqi Children at 12 airline bases in Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Tucson, Denver, Dallas, Minneapolis, Miami, Washington D.C., New York (JFK and LGA) and Boston. Operation Iraqi Children www.operationiraqichildren.org was started by actor Gary Sinise, when he visited Iraq and saw the need. Gary is a friend of Airline Ambassador member Alexis Boilini, who will oversee the project in 12 US cities. We plan to collect thousands of school kits and enroll schools in these 12 cities to assist." - Nancy Rivard - Airline Ambassadors "City-wide promotion, class projects and more." - Chris Bryner - Sheldon Jackson College "Volunteers will make "pillow pal" packages for children going into foster care. Packages will be made for two age groups: 1-10 year olds and 11-15 year olds. The packages will include items like tooth brushes, tooth paste, hair brushes, hair clips, small stuffed animals, etc. and pillow cases." - Shirley Sessions - United Way Volunteer Center "The Heart of America Quilt (international memorial for 9-11) will be displayed Sept. 8-11 in NY." - Susan Morissette - Heart of America Quilt "On 9/13 & 9/14/04 a group of people from the Boulder County Bar Association will be harvesting food from a community garden in Boulder, CO. All harvested food will be donated to the Community Food Share program." - Barb & Scott Tippett - JPMorgan Chase "17-year-old high school student, Justin Rossi, of Newport Richey, Fla., will be repeating his 2003 myGoodDeed volunteer project by organizing a memorial service attended by the community and encouraging all to volunteer their services for the needy. Last year's service attracted over 5,000 attendees." - Justin Rossi - Student "In 25 cities, we will work at schools to improve the physical appearance of classrooms, gyms, cafeterias, outside common areas, school entrances, ball fields, etc." - Joe Vella - "We will encourage members of our farm, and the public in general, to come to the farm on Sunday the 12th to help us plant, weed or harvest the crops to go to community members and charities." - Marla Rhodes - Community Farms Outreach "Will offer 30 free Spanish lessons to 10 NYC fire fighters." - Rita Capolarello - inLingua Language Center "We will hold a picnic in the park for grandparents raising grandchildren." - Erica Woods - RSVP "Will be packing boxes to be sent to our deployed soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan. These boxes will be filled with "goods and greetings"-A "Little Touch from Home" to those so very far from their homes today." - Stephanie Johnson - "A car salesman at Lithia Chevrolet in Wasilla, Alaska plans to donate entire commission for any vehicles he sells on September 11, 2004 to Tuesday's Children. Once he has received his commission check for the sales on that day, he will send a check to Tuesday's children and a card to his customers letting them know that a donation has been made in their name." - George Angus - Lithia Chevrolet / Alaska "Entire state of Ohio is teaming up with McDonalds and the Ohio Citizen Corps to have a "citizen sign up day" on 9-11. People can sign up to pledge service and will then be contacted by Citizen Corps to determine their area of involvement." - John Poole - Ohio Citizen Corps "Annie Walsh and her students at St. Cecelia parochial school in Engelwood, NJ, will be holding a food drive with students donating canned goods on Sept.10 to be distributed to the needy at a later date." - Annie Walsh - St. Cecilia Interparochial School "This year, on 9/11 weekend, we're taking 10 NYC firefighters to San Diego County to help rebuild homes burned in last October's Southern California wildfires as our way of saying "Thank You" to America for the love and support given to us after 9/11." - Jeff Parness - New York Says Thank You "In commemoration of 9/11, Citymeals volunteers will deliver meals to the homebound elderly in New York City." - Leora Jontef - City Meals on Wheels "Inspired by myGoodDeed and spearheaded by the "Friends of San Jacinto," the mayor of Amarillo, TX, proclaimed 9/11 as a National Day of Service in memory of all those affected on that tragic day. In addition, a program called "Help a Frog Leap Day" was created to encourage school children to volunteer in their community." - Rosalee Robinson - Friends of San Jacinto "Volunteers will be working in mobile home parks and individual houses to help senior citizens, disabled and those on fixed income with general yard work, window washing and community beautification to keep the community thriving." - Rigo del Campo/Project Leader - Helping Hands/Volunteer San Diego (East County) Partner Pledges "On September 11th, the Luke Neuhedel Foundation is hosting 300 children with cancer and their families at a Long Island Ducks baseball game. The LNF will also man an information booth and conduct a toy drive." - JPMorgan Chase - Central Islip, Suffolk County, Long Island "We have 80 Citigroup volunteers who will be painting and cleaning up the playground, erasing graffiti, re-painting a mural, sprucing up the garden areas around Meyer London Elementary School." - Citigroup - New York, NY "'Ujima,' a network of African-American employees at JPMorgan Chase, is coordinating participation in the 21st Annual Chicago 5K 'Walk-Run-Bike & Skate-A-Thon', to raise funds for the United Negro College Fund." - JPMorgan Chase - New York, NY |
